Cool new restaurant

Has anyone been to a cool new restaurant lately? I’m pretty excited about a new place in Raleigh. Remember South at North Hills? Well, there’s a new restaurant in its place. It’s called Coquette (ko-KETT) and however you say it, it’s delicious. A friend from Virginia is in town this week and he insisted on treating Cindy and me to dinner at Coquette.

The atmosphere is fun and lively even on a Wednesday evening. If you’re into French comfort food you’ll love this place. From hors o’deuvres to escargots you can’t go wrong. The walnut crusted salmon was sensational. My buddy loved his trout dish. We also enjoyed a triple dose of excellent desserts. It was a pleasure meeting the highly creative Chef de Cuisine Rob Bland.

I can’t wait to go back and try the hamburger and steak frites.

What about you? Have been there and if so what were your impressions? Have you enjoyed any other new restaurants lately?

My new favorite place is The Salem Street Pub in downtown Apex. Very comfortable small town pub with the best burgers in town. Affordable drink allows for a very relaxing evening with friends and plenty of opportunity to make new friends. Bill, I'm telling you right now. It's worth a visit. ;-)

Mythos at Tryon and Cary Pkwy is really good. The seafood is awesome and the calamari is to die for!

You must try 18 Seaboard restaurant ! I think it is the best casual dining restaurant in the Triangle. Chef Jason Smith goes out of his way to provide the best in food, service, and decor. It is an oasis !

If you like sushi, there's Domo sushi across the street from Harrison Grande shopping center in Cary. It's a conveyor belt restaurant. Good food but not so good location.

KevinUNC97, please give details about The Mez. Where is it and what type of food do they serve?

You guys should really check out a place called The Mez near the airport. Their food is delicious and service is outstanding!

My husband and I ate at the Brio Tuscan Grill at Crabtree for New Year's Eve. It was excellent. Another great place that we tried for the first time last Saturday is the Back Fins Crabhouse in downtown Wake Forest. It opened last summer and is run by two brothers from Maryland whose family has always been in the restaurant business. They really know how to fix crabs! We tried some cream of crab soup, appetizer fried shrimp and their crab cakes which are huge and just about all crab meat!! We recommend it highly. Fun, very casual atmosphere.

I was treated to a wonderful dinner before Christmas. Brio, a new restaurant at Crabtree Mall in Raleigh. We tried everything from appetizers, to wine and desserts. It is a large open atmosphere with a view of the kitchen. Tuscan style and the decor is just my style. I would go back!

"Brio offers a lunch, dinner and Kid's menu daily along with a brunch menu on Saturdays and Sundays. The food at Brio is simply prepared using the finest and freshest ingredients, with an emphasis on high- quality steaks, house-made pasta specialties and flatbreads prepared in an authentic Italian wood-burning oven. Brio serves these generous portions of meats, pastas and roasted fish on large oval, hand-painted Italian plates. BRIO also caters to large groups. Our Tuscan Feast Menu with large pans of pasta, house specialties and bread is great for all your home and office celebrations or meetings."
