Let me be your Santa #3

Posted December 11, 2008

We move into stage three of the Let Me Be Your Santa game on Carolina Conversations. Today we will add two extra gifts to the giveaway package. In addition to a copy of the Blue Ridge Reunion book and the CD today we are throwing in a couple of holiday albums: Have a Holly Raleigh Christmas Volume II plus my Christmas in Carolina CD. This is some serious holiday cheer!

Today’s question is: What is your favorite holiday song and why? What song do you have to hear before you can truly get into the spirit of the season? Tomorrow I will toss the names of the bloggers who answered these questions and pull out a winner from my wintry hat. Personally I know it’s almost Christmas after I sing “Sweet Little Jesus Boy” at Cary Presbyterian Church. I’ve sung that song every Christmas Eve in Cary for more than 20 years along with one that I wrote “Road to Bethlehem.”

Drum roll, please. We have a winner from Wednesday’s question about meaningful Christmas gifts. Congratulations tvhartrick. Your name was retrieved from our holiday hat this morning. Please email me at and give me your address so I can send you the Blue Ridge Reunion collection, which, by the way, will soon appear in gift stores along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Thank you for sharing these warm and wonderful stories!

My favorite Christmas song is "Joy To The World". At our Christmas Lovefeast, everyone is holding a lighted candle while singing this song in the dark. As we sing the last verse, all of the candles are raised in the air. When you look throughout the church, even up at the balcony, you feel that wonderful miracle born on Christmas Day !!!

I love all Christmas songs, but I have a tie for my favorite, Away in a Manger and Silent Night. It reminds me of what Christmas is all about. Jesus is the reason for the season. Marry Christmas!

The theme song to "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is my favorite! I always play it first when the kids and I decorate the tree. Then we have chili. Yum! I love Christmas!!!!

It would have to be Away in a Manger because it reminds me of Jesus Loves Me which was played at our 1 year old daughter's funeral in 1985. Megan died of SIDS. She was our first child after many fertilty treatments! We now are blessed with two children, and I see all THREE of them still in their"mangers".

I love the Bing Crosby-David Bowie duet where they combine Little Drummer Boy and King of Glory

And I forgot to say why I love those songs -- they all bring to mind Jesus' love for me. Being able to sing and pray to God makes my relationship with Him so much more personal and meaningful. I wish that feeling would last for people all year long.

I also have more than one -- "O Holy Night (Grobin)," "What Child is This? (McLachlin)," "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (Barenaked Ladies and McLachlin)," and my wife's favorite this year -- "The Gift" by Aselin Debison. Ahh, what am I saying -- I love all Christmas songs.
