Best Festival Results

Posted September 15, 2008

The Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in Linville held off a furious rally by North Carolina's Hot Sauce Contest at Oxford to win the Best of Carolina contest for the top festival statewide.

At precisely 9:00AM Friday when the voting officially stopped GMHG had 225 votes and the Hot Sauce Contest had 223. We allowed voting to continue after 9:00AM but these ballots were not considered part of the official tally. Congratulations to Frank Vance and his amazing team at Grandfather Mountain and to the creative organizers of the hot sauce event which is a young but outstanding festival.

The North Carolina Seafood Festival, which led for much of the balloting, finished third with 212 official votes. Benson’s Mule Days was fourth with 154 votes and Wilmington’s Azalea Festival came in fifth with 128 votes.

We will do another Best of Carolina survey soon. Stay tuned for details.

We will announce the Great Trips Contest winners tomorrow.

It would be interesting to know of all the entries sent in including the latest attendance estimates.
Surprised many of the big festivals weren't in the finals.
