People are always asking me where to take vacation. What's a cool place? What's the most scenic drive? Carolina Conversations attempts to answer those questions and others.

Best diner winner announced

How about a thunderous round of applause for Highway Diner in Rocky Mount! This popular eatery at 810 N. Winstead Avenue has won our Best of Carolina poll for diners statewide. The balloting ended this morning at 9:00. At that moment the Highway Diner had garnered an impressive to 42% of more than 3,400 ballots cast in NC’s Best Diner survey. Blue Ribbon Diner in Mebane and Burlington came in second with 33% of the vote. 4 Corners Diner of Atlantic Beach edged Watkins in Raleigh for third place with slightly better than 5% of the total.

Thanks to all of you for voting and having fun with our contest. In the next few days we will vote on North Carolina’s favorite festival.

Food was on my mind this morning more than usual. I fasted from 7:00P.M. last night until 10:00A.M. this morning. Nothing serious here. Just some routine blood work at the doctor’s office. But my appetite was voracious when I left. I wish I could have found a Highway Diner on the way back to Channel 5.

By the way, thanks to all of you for your very kind comments regarding the passing of my dog Sparky. You all touched my heart and I deeply appreciate your warmth and concern.

you can have the Blue Ribbon Diner in Mebane, overpriced, bad service,so so food. Been there twice won't go back, not a place to take a family.

HMMM ...... I didn't vote because I have never eaten at any of these diners (but I will, lol). Seems to me there was some last minute ballot stuffing. I did view the progress of the voting yesterday and the Blue Ribbon in Mebane was 30 points higher than anyone else.

Outstanding!!!!!!I've eaten at the Highway 64 diner many many times. The food is always good, the service is superb and yes I've had to wait in line on occasion.....

I've see the 4 Corners evolve over the years. It used to be a late night stop (maybe Tommy's Pancake House?) after the Pavillion closed and anything seemed good; now, that I'm more "experienced", it's a great place for breakfast - usually crowded, but always worth the wait.

We went to the 4 Corners Diner a few weeks ago. Had breakfast there two days in a row. Very down home folks there.

As the for the Highway Diner, I've been there only once and it was pretty good.

I will give the 4 Corners Diner a try! This was a fun contest. How did i miss it for all these years?
