Favorite New Restaurant

What’s your favorite new restaurant? Once again we have an appetite for your opinion today. Please fill our plate.

Mild mannered meteorologist Mike Maze came into the station early last week raving about a new restaurant in Cary at Tryon Road and Walnut Street. He said the YoHo Asian Bistro had the best Chinese fare he had ever eaten. Mike is not one to engage in hyperbole so I quizzed him on his glowing assessment. He said the flavor of each ingredient at YoHo “exploded off the plate.” A typical complaint of Chinese food is that “it can all start to taste the same.” Mike said Yo Ho avoided this “broad brush flavor” problem and that each vegetable and meat featured in the recipes had a distinct personality.

Cindy and I decided to give YoHo a try for lunch Saturday. It was wonderful. I tried the Kong Pao Chicken for $6.50 while Cindy had a shrimp special. I liked the option of whole grain brown rice. Mike was on target about the flavors. I savored each bite and can’t wait to go back. I liked the serving sizes – not too much. Just right. Great spring rolls. . Cindy said she would prefer a little more “umph” to her Wonton soup but other than that we were delighted. I like YoHo’s slogan: Where Gastronomy and Good Times Come Together.  There is also a YoHo location in Apex but I haven't tried that one yet.

What new restaurant has tantalized your taste buds recently?

Bill - I drive past their weekly but haven't eaten yet. Love the name!

My honey brought home a sub from Jimmy John's (same shopping complex). Wow is all I can say. To explain the exceptionality of it requires a comparison. Jimmy John's is to Jersey Mike's, like Jersey Mike's is to Subway. And I really like Jersey Mike's!

Beyond the great flavor, they also deliver!

It seems Rocky Mount has a new restaurant every other week, but it's always just another version of the same thing, and it's always a chain, no little holes in the wall waiting to be discovered. I prefer to eat at home, especially since I've been at home all summer between semesters and have had time to hone my cooking skills. Maybe I'll bring some of my fettuccine alfredo by the studio sometime, and you guys can tell me if it's better than a restaurant.

Where is YoHo....where is Jimmy John's?

Bill, THe Poppyseed Market in North Raleigh is the BEST! (Harvest Oaks Plaza-Strickland and LeadMine). I have a three year old son that loves it! The food is freshly prepared by Chef Julia and her staff. Their sandwiches are outstanding and all the entree items are unique and so off the beaten path. I have tried numerous items and have not been disappointed. Lots of vegetarian items, too. GIve them a try sometime!!

YoHo is at the corner of Tryon Road and Walnut Street in Cary in a shopping center near Colonial Baptist Church. The shopping center also features a Brueggers Bagel and Harris-Teeter.

Yes, the Yoho is wonderful! I took my daughter there when I lived in Raleigh and we both enjoyed it so much. WE loved the edamame. Also try Pei way chinese past crossroads mall on walnut. There is also one on wake forest road. That is one of my favorites in Raleigh!! Glad I am moving my daughter to Raleigh tomorrow so I can once again visit the wonderful restaurants!!

Charlie's BBQ and Grille #104 - in Cleveland Commons shopping center off Cleveland Rd. on the I-40 East Exit 312 side of Clayton - turn right on hwy.42, turn left onto Cleveland at CVS Pharmacy stop light, about 4 miles from there past the Cleveland volunteer Fire Dept. Charlie's will be on your left across the street from the Presbyterian Church. Delicious pulled Q (not chopped), ribs and BBQ'ed grilled chicken, homemade desserts, healthy sides. Eat in or take out. We're hooked on Charlie and Kim's food. Yummy for the tummy, y'all!

London Fish & Chips in Cary is less than a year old, I think, and it offers genuine UK-style fish and chips. Delicious!

My bride and I enjoyed lunch Saturday at The Village Grill on Huffman Mill Road in Burlington. Although this is not a "new" restaurant, it was new to us. Very nice place and the food was wonderful.

I haven't tried any new restaurants in a while, but I'd like to try this bistro. Does it have a sanitary rating? Anyone know?
