Favorite Things About Spring in NC

Posted April 11, 2008

What are your favorite things about spring? Please share.

The WRAL Azalea Gardens rank right up at the top for me. Please stop by our gardens off Western Boulevard near NC State University in the next week or so and feast your eyes on an amazing and colorful array of flowers. It’s a prismatic wonderland out there right now. Bring your camera and capture some brilliant images. The blooms and blossoms will give you a surge in spirit and energy, I promise.

Okay, here is my top ten Favorite Things About Spring in NC. What are your choices?

1.  WRAL Azalea Gardens
2.  St. Mary’s Street in Raleigh
3.  Durham Bulls baseball at the DBAP
4.  Great running weather
5.  My cabin in the mountains near Roaring Gap
6.  Pinehurst and Southern Pines
7.  Hiking trails at Grandfather Mountain
8.  Bluebirds in my backyard
9.  Fresh strawberries and peaches
10. Neotropical songbirds of the Roanoke River

Winters are short in NC. Thats my favorite!!

I always welcome Spring even if Fall is my favorite time of year.

I like the sounds of the little frogs, especially around dusk.
Trouble is that most get zapped by early frosts it seems. But,
if not for those frosts maybe we would be totally overrun with
    frogs. Who knows!

I love the WRAL Gardens, of course, but my backyard is covered in wisteria. The purple is starting to fade away, but the past two weeks have been beautiful and fragrant.

Sprucing up my year with my son and husband, grilling out almost every night, eating supper on the deck, and going to Washington DC to watch the Eno River Young Marines march in the National Memorial Day parade.

Only barely freezing when I'm laying out in the sun, wood violets, daffodils, wisteria tendrils, smelling fresh cut grass, leaving the windows open at night, the Yankees games, the Braves games, sitting outside when I get home from work, and knowing that it won't be long until Fall!

Everything is wonderful in spring! My favorites are: cherry blossoms, blue birds, my pink dogwood, my tulip tree and seeing the first butterflies. I also love planting my garden!

The first daffodils and tulips blooming and the first taste of fresh strawberries.

Everything beginning to look really GREEN, rainshowers that last a little while then leave the air smelling fresh,my rosebushes blooming, all the cute little birds in my backyard at the feeders, the bunny rabbits we have here in the country that hop around and drive my mini daushound crazy(he cant catch them - he's too slow!lol), the crabapple bush blooming and sounding like its humming with all the bees in it,going fishing in the local ponds and catching a bream ,riding in the truck with the window down, the smell of sweet shrub bushes next to the house - makes the air smell really good, and last but not least, my grandkids playing in the dirt in the garden and getting soooo dirty all you can see are those bright blue eyes(5 yr old girl, 4 yr old boy and 1 1/2yr old boy!!!) :)
