The Year Ahead

Happy New Year! I hope your holidays went well.

What would you like to blog about in 2008 here on Carolina Conversations?

I'd like to continue our tour of all 100 Tar Heel counties. I apologize for getting a bit off track on that journey late in the year.

What do you like about this blog? How can we make it better?

Do you enjoy blogging about people and places or recipes and restaurants?

Lets begin with resolutions. What is your list for 2008? We'll give a DVD prize for the most interesting and inspirational?

i love this state - and eating! - so much so that i'm doing a 100 county gastronomic tour. my goal is to eat in each county in the state, and i'm blogging about it (feistync.wordpress.com). i'm glad you're going to continue with your 100 counties tour; hopefully it will help me with my own plans. thanks!

I love this blog the way it is. I enjoy the family like atmosphere of everyone that posts here. My resolutions for 2008 are: 1. Finish my training to be ordained as a Minister. 2. Get my Diabetes under complete control. 3. Be a better husband to my wife. 4. Finish the book I have been trying to write.

Bill, I love the blog just as it is... a mix of travel, treasures and good food. Don't change a thing. I really didn't make any resolutions for the New Year. Since my heart surgery back in 1999, I have tried to live each day to the fullest and now savor the simple things in life. I derive great pleasure in waking each day to new possibilities. I honestly LOVE my life.

Oh, I forgot to tell you guys! My wife and I were in Old Salem this last weekend. The Visitor's Center had Bill's Christmas CD playing! Good taste, eh?

(And thank you for the kind words, cjack55! As much as I would love a CD, I won another of Bill's contests a few weeks ago, so I think we should spread the good fortune around our loyal group!)

Last year, I had a car accident with my son becuase my blood sugar got so low, that I passed out. My son was a hero in every sense of the word, talking to me and keeping me conscious enough to crash into a guard rail instead of another car. He used my cell phone to call for help. You see, I'm a type I (insulin dependent) diabetic, and have been since I was 2 years old. Although I'm only 35 now, it's beginning to catch up with me. Becuase of my long-standing diabetes, I don't recognize the early symptoms of low sugar reactions and my hands don't work as well due to diabetic neuropathy. This year, I resolve to take control of my life back. I've been placed on a wiat list for a service dog who will alert me to the symptoms of low blood sugar while I can still take care of it myself. The dog will also be trained to open doors, pick things up off the floor, etc. to help with my hands. Once I get my dog (and figure out how to pay for it!) I'll never scare my son again!

Let me be the first to say that I believe "Celt" should win the CD hands down! I lOVE his goals & wish everyone was more like him!

As a transplant to NC (who hopes to live here for the rest of his life!), I love this blog because it helps introduce me to the history and culture of my adopted state. Plus the people writing on this blog are so nice! (the occasional Yankee comment notwithstanding! haha).

Of all the goals I have for 2008, there are three that I will mention here. (1) On Dec 31, 2008, I want to be able to say that I love the Lord more than I did a year ago; (2) I want to treat every day with my wife and daughter as if it were the last I will ever have; and (3) I want to live my life with enough integrity and kindness that I am worthy to bear the surname of my father, the most amazing person I have ever known.

I love this blog because of the friendly atmosphere and small community feel that it has. (As well as a supurb moderater!!). My reslolutions for 2008: 1. Keep my house a bit cleaner. I'm not very domesticated.... 2. Loss weight. I bought a new ab machine on Dec 31 and began using it on Jan 1. 2 days down!! 3. Learn how to grocery shop and meal plan. After 8 years of marriage, I really think it's time that I start learning how to do this on a regular basis. Currently,I have frequent flyer miles at the local burger joint. My hubby isn't fond of leftovers- so I'm learning how to successfully cook for two with minimal leftovers. and #4: Standing up for myself. I tend to just let things go and say it's not worth fighting over. This year- I'm going to regain some of my dignity and self confidence and learn to stand up for myself and what I believe in. Keep up the good work Bill!

I love this blog too. The biggest plan I have for 2008 is to finally finish my BA in history at ECU after fourteen years.

I have to agree with Riverracer. And I wish my employer felt the same. My New Years Resolution is to find a new job. Changes were made to my duties that I am not happy with and this was a case of "not broken". I enjoy your blog, and only wish that I had more to contribute. :-)
