Go Mountaineers!  Beat the Blue Hens!

Be sure to wear black and gold to show support for Appalachian State which is gunning for its third consecutive national championship in football in Chattanooga against Delaware.

My son Will finished exams this week in Boone, bolted home with a huge load of laundry and is now headed back west but this time for the 7 1/2 hour drive to Chattanooga and the title game.

I would like to use this blog as a forum of encouragement for the Appalachian State football team.

What message would you like to leave for the Mountaineer gridiron warriors?

The persons writing the top three messages will receive a CD of their choice.  The options include any of my five CDs, DVD or Holly Raleigh Christmas compilation CD.

Lets rev up that Mountaineer spirit!

I got back from Chattanooga a few days ago and it was wonderful to see ASU win a third national title! I am proud to be a mountaineer! As a junior at Appalachian, I have been able to see the football team make it to the national championship each year (2005, 2006, and now 2007)!

3-peat complete! Now 4 for Coach Moore!

    Go APPS!

"Adopted as the official state bird on April 14, 1939, the Blue Hen Chicken had long been used as a motif in numerous political campaigns and in many publications.

During the Revolutionary War, the men of Captain Jonathan Caldwell's company, recruited in Kent County, took with them game chickens that were said to be of the brood of a famous Blue Hen and were noted for their fighting ability.

When not fighting the enemy, the officers and men amused themselves by pitting their Blue Hen chickens in fights. The fame of these fights spread throughout the army and when in battle, the Delaware men fought so valiantly that they were compared to these fighting chickens."

Mountaineers are going to be stuffed and "Cuff"ed. Go Blue Hens!!

  • Garnerwolf1 Dec 14, 2007 lists the App State victory over Michigan as the biggest upset of 2007. From - "Ranked No. 5 entering the season, Michigan had national-championship aspirations. This game was viewed as a virtual scrimmage to ease the Wolverines into the '07 campaign. But Appalachian State had different plans. Led by dynamic QB Armanti Edwards and speedy WR Dexter Jackson, the Mountaineers stormed the Big House and became the first Division I-AA team to beat a ranked Division I-A team. Appalachian State blocked a 37-yard field goal on the final play of the game to preserve the win."

"...stormed the Big House..." Kind of gives you goose bumps, doesn't it? :-)

Mountain men eating blue chicken for dinner tonight!!!
