People are always asking me where to take vacation. What's a cool place? What's the most scenic drive? Carolina Conversations attempts to answer those questions and others.

We'll Miss You Mark Roberts!

For eight years now I have had the pleasure of working with Mark Roberts on WRAL’s Morning News. You’ve probably heard by now that Mark is leaving to run his own media and information company. Mark has a strong sense of independence and it will serve him well as CEO of Mark Roberts Enterprises, Inc.

Looking back on Mark’s 17 year career here at WRAL I am amazed at his versatility. Mark made us laugh through horrible traffic jams but he also did a terrific job covering serious stories. Mark is very good at sizing up a news story, quickly gathering all the facts and then relaying the information to the public in a clear and succinct manner.

I remember Mark’s outstanding work in Florida while covering the devastation of Hurricane Andrew in 1992. I recall his gripping reports from Haiti in 1994 during the police beatings. Probably Mark’s best work as a serious journalist came in Albania during the ethnic violence of 1999.

No one can cover the State Fair like Mark Roberts. And no one, not even Santa Claus, can match his personality in the Raleigh Christmas Parade.

I will miss Mark greatly on the Morning News – his personality, his boundless energy, his funny stories and his kind friendship. I wish him all the best. I am happy to hear that he will continue to help out during special events like the Christmas parade and the State Fair and also The Brain Game.

Our question of the day:

What greeting would you like to send to Mark Roberts?

I will pass along your warm words.

Good Luck, Mark. I watch WRAL every morning while I'm getting ready for work and I can't imagine someone else other than you doing the traffic report. We will all miss you!!

I hate to hear that he is leaving. My husband told me he was leaving a couple of weeks ago. I drive 40+ miles each day to Raleigh from my home in Sampson County and MUST hear the traffic in the morning before I go. Even my 4 year old yells "Mom, Mark Roberts is doing the traffic." He has become a big part of our family. When he is off, she will ask where he is.

Please pass along to Mark: We want to wish him well and know he will do great in whatever he does!! And who would not want to be around him, talk to him, do business with someone that upbeat? Good Luck but know that you will be missed, please keep in touch and send in your snow, whether pictures from your cul-de-sac.

good luck mark! we will miss you in the mornings!! we hope to see you at the raleigh christmas parade dancing in the streets!!!!!!!

I'm so sorry to hear you are leaving Mark. I listen to you every morning before I head off to work and I will sure miss your Kookie, Crazy, Laid-back delivery of the traffic. No one will be able to replace you and I hope they don't try to get a clone of you! Good Luck in your new venture.

It's funny how I've gotten so use to seeing everyone on the morning news while getting my family ready, you all really do become part of everyone's family. Mark, you will be greatly missed, but best of luck in the future.

My husband and I met Mark Roberts at the NC State Fair. We go every year just to speak to him and hear is "fine words of wisdom".. haha!! He will truly be missed in our home. We literally wake up to channel 5 every day (the tv has an alarm clock on it!)and look forward to seeing all of you, but Mark just has that extra special something that we look forward to everyday. Good Luck Mark!!! - M & L Cavenaugh, Magnolia NC

Best of luck to a person who has the ability to handle all types of situations on the TV screen. I always look forwar to his traffic reports in the morning and I live 75 miles away. I am sure he will be a hit in whatever he tackles.

Things just won't be the same without Mark. I wish him all the best in his new endeavor.

Mark-- I will miss you!! I remember you and Mike Maze laughing so hard that Mike could barely do the weather report. You made us laugh through the years, and you did such a great job. I feel like I know you. Take care, and good luck. Lisa

Best wishes to you in whatever you do. My wife and I really enjoy waking up to Channel 5 news and you never fail to add something truly unique to the broadcast. We will miss you but look forward to seeing you during the Christmas parade and wherever else you may turn up in your new business.
