Bill Leslie's Carolina Conversations

Quest 50 Continues!!!

Posted August 29, 2007

17 down. 33 to go. And three foreign countries to boot!  We are off to a great start in our quest to hear from Carolina Conversations blog readers in every state by the end of Friday.

I was thrilled this morning to hear from my cul de sac neighbor Ryan Gary who is proudly serving his country in Hawaii these days. Ryan is one of my son's best friends. He's an outstanding young Marine who has served courageously in Iraq. All of us here at WRAL give you a heartfelt salute Ryan! We look forward to your safe return home.

Again, our goal is to hear from blog readers in all fifty states this week. If you have friends in other states please ask them to check out this blog and post a brief message stating where they’re living or vacationing. I’ll send a prize to the person who recruits the most out-of-state posters. We will also grant a prize to the most faraway poster. If you would prefer to email me my address is

If you currently live in NC but have strong ties to another state we will also count you. The overall goal is to have fun and get people to talk about what they miss or like the most about the Old North State.

Surely we can add another 17 states today but we can't do it without your help.

States Heard From So Far: Hawaii, Indiana, NY, NJ, NC, MA, TX, TN, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Washington (state), Missouri, Tennessee, Maryland, Georgia, Virginia and Florida.

Foreign Countries Reporting: England, Germany and Singapore

Come on Rhode Island! Come on Nebraska! Come on Alaska! Come on Iceland!

I received this email overnight from Cajun Country:

I was born and raised in N.C. in the Kinston area. I moved to Louisiana when I married.I now live in northwest Louisiana. It is the state of great cajun food.I do miss my N.C. b-b-que fix. I still cook a fish stew for my neighbors and they love it. Good luck on your quest.

Minnesota is now official. We relish our friends and fine weather in West End, NC half the year ... the other half we live in Minnesota. It is the very best of all worlds.

Thanks, Shirley! Yes, you have brought Ohio into the fold. I had a job offer from a station in Columbus many years ago. It was tempting.

Cheddarhead - a big block of extra sharp greetings to you for bringing home the cheese!

JerryO - You are quickly becoming the MVP on this blogquest. Thanks for the Mississippi magic!

And yes, Leigh, you have hit the jackpot with Nevada!

The weather is beautiful today! Cool, but refreshing... a wonderful change from scorching Las Vegas!

  • ltulloss Aug 29, 2007

I also just returned from Nevada yesterday! Does that count?
