Cool Web Site: Pandora

Thanks for all of your recommendations for Cool Web Sites. The first one we will feature is Pandora.

You can craft your own internet radio station based on the type of music you like. My tastes range from classical to blue grass and just about everything in between depending on the mood. Molly in Roxboro says “it’s neat to be able to program your own channel. I even have a Bill Leslie music channel.”

Pandora meticulously analyzes each song it plays and finds similar songs from other artists. You can also give a thumbs up or thumbs down to songs played on the channel.

Plus you have a Mix feature that allows you to listen to songs from different genres.

Check it out:

Let me know what you think of it. We’ll have another cool Web site tomorrow.

I have been using Pandora for about a year now...and it is, by far the best and most often visited site on my home computer...I love the fact that I can connect my high wattage speaker and subwoofer system and listen to it just as if I had in a good mixed CD. I also like that I can change my music based on my mood and of course that I can select the mix up to listen to a wide variety of music at one sitting. Thanks for posting this as your cool website.

I've been using Pandora for a year or so now, GREAT site. My biggest compliant is that I can't get in it in the car.

Heyman25 I like your choices. Don't know what you have cable/dish wise, but Dish Network has a beach/shag station. It is Channel 936 and I listen to it all the time. I like a wide variety of music. Beach/Rock/Country. This sounds ideal for me. Thanks Bill for the info.

Just checked out the Pandora site and it is great. Put in The Embers, Band of Oz and Fantastic Shakers on my site and I have been getting great beach music and classic R&B sounds. Thanks Bill!

Pandora is a great site and thanks for reviewing it. The mixer is awesome and the way the software selects songs that sound like what you originally select is uncanny.

I LOVE pandora. i was introduced to it a few months ago by a friend. what i love the most about it is it plays a lot of B-sides. songs that are NOT always on the radio. and they play a lot of unknowns as well, so it's a great way to learn about new artists!

I'm not that much into bluegrass to know the John Prine name.

Not sure we will even go to Regency again. This was our 1st visit & getting wet while having grass seats was a bummer. Our last outdoor concert several years ago was at Alltel - grass seats again to see Elton John & it poured that night too.

When you've experienced Red Rocks in CO for outdoor concerts & EVERYONE has a bona fide seat, this NC stuff stinks. It's a very cheap way to make lots of $ without providing much benefit in return to the customer.

Alison Krauss is my favorite singer and I had to miss it due to family obligations. I saw her the last time she was at Regency and she was awesome! I'm glad you had a good time. Did you hear that John Prine is coming Aug. 17. He is an incredible lyricist.

I have not looked at the website yet, but your mention of a fondness for bluegrass reminds me: did you attend the Allison Krauss concert Sat. evening in Cary? It was great, even with the rainy conditions.
