Bill Leslie's Carolina Conversations

Raymond Felton

Posted May 4, 2007

I am no fan of the NBA but I am a big fan of Raymond Felton. The Charlotte Bobcat guard and former UNC star stopped by our studios this week. We had a nice chat. Lynda asked him what were the first three things he bought with his NBA money. He said a house and car for his parents in South Carolina and an SUV for himself.

Raymond is still very much the Carolina fan and has high hopes for the 2007-2008 edition of the Tar Heels. He thinks they could go all the way and win a national championship even without Brandan Wright who is turning pro after his freshman season. Raymond is very impressed with point guard Ty Lawson whose game is very similar to his and shooting guard Wayne Ellington.

Raymond enjoys his NBA lifestyle but admits it can be a grind with all of the travel and fatigue. He seems to be well grounded and is quite polite and approachable. He is an optimistic man. He predicts the Bobcats will make the NBA playoffs next season. He says they would have made it this season had it not been for a rash of injuries.

I wish Raymond well in the professional ranks even though I can't really get excited about the NBA. My passion is college hoops. My interest in the NBA faded with Michael Jordan's final retirement.

IForgot, Your satirical attempt at ebonics is sophomoric and racist. There is no lower form of life than a person who minimizes the achievements and good fortunes of others, simply because they didn't wear their favorite team's jersey. This is a blog entry about a fine young man with a good head on his shoulders. No such words shall ever be written or spoken about you.

Thanks for posting, Iforgot. Having detractors is the best kind of validation. If UNC were anything less than the cream-of-the-crop in basketball, no one would hate us so much!

wow---go figure---a carolina player who again thinks that UNC will go all the way this year........if that was the case then they woudl have to use the Dean Dome just to hold all the trophies and banners that would be hung up b/c they woudl have won it all since day one......and oh yea --what a dumb question to ask a college player who went pro, what was the first thing you bought with your way to outrageous income??? 99% say the same thing , I bought 5 houses and 14 SUV's and oh yea I bought my moms and dem the same thing since I am rollin in all this loot!!!! Holla at ya boy.......please

Good Luck to Raymond Felton in the coming years with the Bobcats. I will never forget what he did for the Tar Heels. He will forever be a hero in Chapel Hill.
