Published: 2007-05-01 06:25:19

May Day will be Ray Day in Raleigh.  It's going to be a scorcher with a high of 92.  Grab some comfort in a glass of mighty nice iced tea.

Two questions today:

1. Which restaurant makes the very best iced tea?

2. What is the ultimate recipe for Southern iced tea?

Thanks for quenching our ever growing thirst for knowledge!

I'm an NC native and grew up on iced tea. True Southerners NEVER call it "sweet tea." Iced tea in the South IS sweet. "Sweet tea" is not a Southern term. As far as restaurant iced tea, Smithfield BBQ is usually pretty good.

ps a recipe for sweet tea? Start with lipton tea bags and always add about a cup of sugar per half a gallon - that's right - 2 cups of sugar per gallon. Thats because when you add it to the ice and it dilutes a little it still tastes sweet.

Bar-b-cue houses always have the BEST sweetest tea! Bojangles tea is pretty good too - but only if it's had time to properly chill.

Bullocks BBQ in Durham....bestest sweet tea ever...food is screaming too :)

Parker's here in Greenville do make very good ice tea. Mc Donalds also has good tea sometimes.

To make good tea, take 4 qts hot water and 3 luizianne family size tea bags. Steep for 15-20 min. Add 21/4 cups sugar and 1 lemon cut up into slices. Refridgerate and Enjoy. Doesn't last long in my house.

Ya gotta try the sweet tea at Stewart's in Roxboro......I get some everytime I go through there. And they have the soft ice pellets....makes it that much better!

I have always heard that Parker's Bar B Que in Wilson/Greenville has the best Ice Tea.. because they sweeten it with HONEY!!! I microwave the 2 family size bags in a large cup of H20 for 3 minutes.. pour over 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup splenda.. stir and add cold H20..in to a 2 quart container. last 1 day for the 4 of us!!

My favorite iced tea (sweet tea) comes from Ole Time BBQ. I drink mine either half and half (half sweet, half unsweet)or unsweet with Splenda. I have been drinking my tea that way for years. Last summer on one of my trips to Carolina Beach, I asked for half and half tea at one of the local restaurants...I took one sip and started choking...I asked what was I drinking and the kid said...you asked for half and half...so, it is half tea and half coffee...so, now I am careful how I ask for tea.

Parker's Barbeque in Greenville makes the best sweet tea on planet Earth.

My wife likes the sweet tea at Cafe Carolina (Cameron Village). My personal favorite "restaurant" sweet tea is at Ron's Barn on Hwy 55 near Coats, followed closely by Fred Chason's Grandson's Buffet off Hwy 59/I-95 outside Hope Mills.

Sadly, I know not how to make good tea...
