Bill LeslieBill Leslie's Carolina Conversations
People are always asking me where to take vacation. What's a cool place? What's the most scenic drive? Carolina Conversations attempts to answer those questions and others.

Carolina Cupid

Since this is the week for lovers I thought I would ask you: What is your favorite romantic destination? There are no right or wrong answers.

To the outdoorsy type the rough and rugged beauty of  Linville Gorge near my boyhood home might spell romance. To others a soft pillow with a chocolate truffle on top at a spiffy bed & breakfast says "I love you."

I thought it might be fun to ask some of my co-workers here at WRAL to name their top romantic spot. Elizabeth Gardner quickly replied: "Hot Springs...Mountain Magnolia, a fabulous old Victorian bed and breakfast with beautiful views and fantastic food." Valonda Calloway says her favorite destination is Topsail Island for an enchanting sunrise or simply a warm day at the park.
Mark Roberts says romance with a jaunt to Asheville for spa treatments and big breakfasts at the Grove Park Inn.

You have heard my favorites in the past. They include sunrise in Alleghany County, sunset at Bald Head Island, Edenton and Ocracoke. What about you? Please share.

For me, who has a husband who hasn't a clue how to use the debit card in his wallet and his 2 cell phones to do or set up something romantic, ANYTHING would be a surprise and appreciated!! I do envy wives with husbands who create something special each time.

I love the beach but there is nothing more romantic than Boone. Just something cozy and content about the mountains there.

In state, my favorite would be the Graystone Inn in Wilmington. Sitting in the dark-wood library sipping a glass of wine together, talking late into the night in the bright living room, waking up in a lovely period bedroom, and walking hand in hand through the town learning of our Southern heritage--it is heaven. Out of state...we celebrated one anniversary in a pretty little bed and breakfast on the Irish Sea just east of Dublin. It was wonderful!!

Anywhere in the mountains........softly falling snow and a fire in the fireplace.

Anywhere my husband and I are, home or away, is romantic to me. He's like most guys, he's romantic when you least expect it! I will be taking him to Key West in May for his 50th birthday and I am knowing that the whole week will be romantic! So our dinner on this Valentines Day will be at the local hamburger place!!! Which is romantic to us, cuz its just us two! Happy Valentines Day, Bill and the gang at WRAL!

Fryemont Inn in Bryson City, NC with it gigantic fireplace with a fireplace going and watching the sun coming up over the mountian peaks AHHHHHHHHHH. I'll not be there this year for my anniversary since we are taking a cruise shortly after our aniversary but I will miss my Fryemont w/ the Browns and the staff.

Could there be anything more romantic than going to the NCSU vs Maryland basketball game tonight? That's where my wife and I are going. I hope Sidney wears his Red jacket! Go Pack!

Ahh, yes! The Fryemont is magic. Their dinners are delightful with superb rainbow trout dishes.

Well I have only been to this place once but if I can ever afford it again, I want to go back to Ruidoso, NM. This is a beautiful place in the mountains. As far as a place in NC...I love everywhere in NC...that is why I call it HOME...
