Weekend Getaway: Sunset Beach

We've just got to take advantage of this warm weather and enjoy a weekend at the beach.  My preference is Sunset Beach 50 miles south of Wilmington.  It is truly a family beach without all of the glitz and buzz of Myrtle Beach just 30 miles to the south.

Sunset Beach is the southernmost beach in the state.  It is also one of the smallest and quietest.

We'll take the old floating pontoon bridge across the intracoastal waterway.  How about some fishing at the pier?  Brunswick County is full of great golf courses.

We'll have a great seafood dinner at nearby  Calabash and if the kids persist, yes, we can drive down to Myrtle Beach for a few hours of excitement.

Sunset Beach is situated so that erosion is not a problem.  The beaches have been expanding here for years.  You'll love the naturally wide and sandy beaches.

The holidays were a little stressful, perhaps.  A good book by the sea in the quiet and warm January sunlight.  Sounds good doesn't it?

WOW!!! Do we have to tell everyone the best places to go?

Man that does sound good. My family and I have been going to Kure Beach for years to vacation. Less commercialized, more room,etc... Sounds like Sunset also fills the bill. Perhaps we'll venture a little further south this year and give it a try. Thanks for the info.

Well, I will only be about a week and a half behind you!!!lol My bestfriend has just purchased at house at Sunset Beach and I've not seen it, yet. But she is taking me down there on the 14th and we are staying until the 16th. Gotta come back to the "real world" on the 17th(my birthday!)Hope to eat at Capn Nances, take in the beautiful scenery, maybe a side trip to Myrtle Beach and she said she's found a pirate shop. Oh boy! I need a new pirate sticker for my van!!!lol And a MUST - if the weather holds out, a trip down to Bird Island and see if we can find any really good seashells and sanddollars! Lots of walking but well worth it! Can hardly wait to get sand between my toes. Sunset Beach is one of my top 3 beaches. Making footprints in the sand.......PirateGirl from Meadow ;)

If your luggage is a little heavy, it is because I am tagging along for the ride. :) No matter what the weather, the beach is always a good option. The ocean is so therapeutic for me. Relax and enjoy and enjoy the good seafood for all of us. (I love Myrtle Beach too)
