Traveling with Charles Frazier

Posted Updated

Have you read Charles Frazier's new book? If so, what did you think of it? Thirteen Moons was a Christmas gift for me. I'm about half way through the more than 400 page19th century frontier epic based in the NC mountains. I love Frazier's prose. I grew up in a town of storytellers and Frazier fits in perfectly with my vision of a marvelous tale teller. I love the romance of journeys and Frazier is the master of journey writing especially across a landscape that is near and dear to my heart. Not everyone agrees. The Washington Post calls Frazier's latest book long-winded, corny and boring. Sections of the book drag on a bit but it's easy to hopscotch over the detail and get back to the heart of the evolving plot.. I don't know yet if I like Thirteen Moons as much as Frazier's blockbuster Cold Mountain but I relish my travels with Charles Frazier. He makes me feel like I am back in Morganton listening to Sam Ervin spin a yarn about life before the Civil War in the rough and rugged terrain of western North Carolina.
