The hustle and bustle of Christmas will lead to the quiet of winter. Try to carve out some time this winter to go on a few hikes. I love hiking in the snow in solitude. It is so incredibly quiet. I can hear my heart. I can also hear my soul and that's why it is so important. I don't know about you but one of the toughest things for me to do is to slow down, disengage my ego and listen to that still small voice inside me. I look forward to slapping on several layers of warm clothing and hitting the hills. Several years ago I recorded my footfalls in the snow at Grandfather Mountain. The recording inspired a song called "Wintry Walk" which can be found on my Peaceful Journey CD. I am also reminded of the song "In the Bleak Midwinter." There is a beauty in the bare branches. There is a beauty in laying bare one's soul to the wintry quiet of nature.
