Hey, I'm not a golfer but I still love Pinehurst! And this is the best place for a Tar Heel Traveler Weekend Getaway as we approach the middle of March. With the warm weather you might think the coast would be best but WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner says the shoreline will be much cooler than the Sandhills. So come on down and enjoy the beautiful scenery. If you are a golfer, great! This is one of the world's top golf destinations. More than 40 courses await you. USAir Express provides several daily flights to Moore County Airport. There is an unwritten rule. If you have to leave luggage behind on a full flight, pass on the suitcases but never leave golf clubs behind! Enjoy the rich US Open golf history here in what many call the home of American golf. Pinehurst is also a great spot for tennis and other activities as well. Numerous horse farms are located nearby. The Pinehurst Harness Track is a favorite destination or you can get out on your bicycle and delight in the scenery along the mostly flat country roads. I love strolling around the village. It is so beautiful and relaxing with lots of quaint shops and places to grab a cup of coffee or beverage of your choice. I'm also a big fan of Weymouth Woods State Park in Southern Pines next door. You'll find four miles of trails there. Pottery shops are within a short driving distance. If you are looking for a place to stay I love the Holly Inn. The Pinehurst Resort and Country Club is also superb and both have excellent restaurants. I hear good things about the Pine Crest Inn, the Magnolia Inn and Dugan's Pub. It's hard to go wrong in Pinehurst.
