Weekend Getaway: Hendersonville

We're off to the mountains this Memorial Day weekend. We'll spend most of our time in the Hendersonville area. We'll stay at the recently renovated Echo Mountain Inn in a beautifully wooded area. The inn is a great place to stay and to dine. On Saturday we will check out the annual Garden Jubilee in downtown Hendersonville. 100 vendors will be selling merchandise and plants to enhance your garden and lawn. Then we'll head on over to Flat Rock and tour Carl Sandburg's home of Connemara. This National Historic Site offers a glimpse into the every day life of one of America's finest poets. We'll also check out an historic church. St. John in the Wilderness is an Episcopal chapel built in 1833. Saturday night we'll take in a performance of The Melville Boys at the Flat Rock Playhouse Theatre. We'll take it easy on Sunday but on Monday we'll head on over to Black Mountain and Asheville for two Memorial Day observances around lunchtime. Then we'll head on back home.
