We will honor Hugh Morton this weekend at the 51st annual Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. It won’t be the same without him but I am sure he will join us in spirit. I can still see him crouched down and up close snapping awesome photographs of the burly and rugged Scotsmen in the heavy athletic games. Hugh lived life with passion until his recent death. I am sure he would want us to do the same this weekend when we celebrate our heritage from the Celtic glens across the sea. My kilt is in the car as I write this. My vehicle is gassed and ready for the ride up the mountain. Stop by the Reviewing Stand at McRae Meadows Saturday and Sunday and say hello. This will be my third year as emcee for the games. The Grandfather Mountain games are arguably the best Highland Games in the world. I have been to other games including those in Scotland and I would put Grandfather at the top. The weather should be splendid. There is a wealth of activities including a morning marathon, Scottish dancing, Celtic Grove music, Parade of Tartans, sheep dog demonstrations, caber tosses, piping competition, great food and many vendors with a wide range of merchandise. See you in Linville this weekend and wear your tartan with pride!
