Green Acres Tonight
Posted August 9, 2006
This is a good news, bad news story. Think about it. Take 300 football fields of land. We are losing that much land every day to development in North Carolina. Every day! I’m not knocking development. We need it for places to live, work and shop. We need it for jobs. But we also need green spaces to preserve the magnificent landscapes we cherish across North Carolina. Open spaces help protect water and air quality. They also nourish the soul. Tonight at 7 on WRAL Television we will take a look at the galloping growth across the Tar Heel state in a Focal Point program titled “Green Acres.” I had the pleasure of working with Clay Johnson and Jay Jennings on this important project. The good news is we can do something about the explosive growth. We can help protect those precious vistas before they are gobbled up by shopping centers and subdivisions. I am not going to spill the beans. Watch the documentary tonight. I think your eyes will be opened to an urgent matter that will prompt you to call your local state legislator. Time is running out. Please watch tonight at 7 and respond to this Tar Heel Traveler blog with your thoughts. Thanks!
