We'll take a watery Weekend Getaway to some of the finest trout streams in western North Carolina. We will test our wits against brook, brown and rainbow trout. Those are the three trout species in NC. My father used to catch rainbow trout in the South Mountains near Morganton. Jacob Fork there remains a great spot. You will also enjoy the trails of South Mountain State Park. Upper Creek in Burke County is also a great fishing area. Nearby you may have to share the natural space with avid kayakers this weekend but Wilson Creek near NC 181 is mecca for anglers. Fly fishing is big on this Wild and Scenic waterway in Caldwell County. On up toward Boone, Kapps Mill is a favorite destination for trout seekers. The Watauga River near NC 105 and Grandfather Mountain has been known to yield some large rainbow trout. Don't forget Stone Mountain State Park near Elkin. There are many great trout steams in that area. Here's a great website to get you started and help refresh you with all of the rules and regulations:

Hey, thanks so much for making this such a fun week! The response to our quiz has been overwhelming. We may keep it going for a few more days. Winners get a copy of my new CD "I Am a River," a Celtic fusion album which is doing very well on the international music charts. I took all of Thursday's winning answers and put the names in a hat and drew one. I am sorry I can't pick all of the names. Drum roll please. The answer to the question about the "river of peace" with the wide mouth: Neuse.

THURSDAY'S QUIZ WINNER: Kathleen Stefanick

Kathleen, please send me your address.

TODAY'S QUIZ: I am a river. My basin includes the state's largest natural lake. Who am I?
