Spring Break

How was your spring break? Did you go anywhere interesting? What were the highlights?

N. Myrtle Beach was my spring break destination for the first time since high school and college. It’s not my usual type of getaway, but some friends offered their condo and the Scotsman inside me could not refuse. We really did have a grand time along the strand. We stayed at Crescent Shores in a 17th floor two bedroom unit. The wide angle view was stunning, especially early in the morning. I took a lot of pictures and I am including them with the blog. Let me know what you think.

I enjoyed the massive expanse of ocean in front of me with very few ships in the distance. Oddly, the view reminded me of our place in the mountains where it seems we can see forever on a clear day. My greatest accomplishment of the week was taking a CD course on basic meditation and reading a 600-page book on Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I also did some important spade work on a new music CD with a Scottish theme. I still love to walk and run on the beach. Even in my shorts with baseball cap and sunglasses people still recognized me and greeted me kindly.

The only downside was the occasional scream of youthful exuberance in the middle of the night from some of our neighbors. Overall, it was a wonderful vacation that I will savor for a long time. It’s good to know I’m not too old for Myrtle Beach. At the northside!

katizs, that sounds like an awesome spring break! We really do have so much beauty here in NC, from the mountains to the outer banks, and many stops along the way!

Me & my kids had a fun one, we managed to go the length of North Carolina - which they thought it was neat to go back to school and tell their teachers they went from one end to the other end of the state - we spent Monday exploring New Bern, NC and the Tryon Palace, then the evening at Atlantic Beach, Tuesday & Wednesday time with Grandma in Zebulon and then Thursday - Saturday in Cherokee, NC camping and hiking then Easter Sunday with family and friends in Selma!

We met friends from Kentucky in Pigeon Forge and had a blast spending time together and visiting all the hot spots. Was a vacation I am sure we will repeat!!

My wife and I have had 2 spring breaks. A couple of weeks ago, we took off on a Friday morning and went up to Pilot Mountain and on to Mt. Airy. We spent the night in Sparta and drove down the Parkway to Linville where we hiked to the falls again. We went on down to Maggie Vally and on Sunday to Brevard where we spent a couple of days hiking to waterfalls.

Last week, we went back to Brevard and Rosman and down into upstate South Carolina to another waterfall. We got back on Good Friday. We enjoy going to waterfalls to take pictures of them. We are both retire educators so we can go pretty much at will.

My Son and Daughter in Law arrived late Saturday night from Italy. They are stationed there, both serving in the U.S. Army. They have chosen to spend their Spring Break at Ocracoke Island. We will be joining them for a long weekend, for some family time before they head back to Italy late next week, then both are headed back to Afghanistan in July. Ocracoke is the perfect place for spring break.

We took our first trip trip to the Florida Keys and had an awesome time. We stayed on Duck Key at the Hawks Cay resort. I would highly recommend it. Highlights included trip to the Turtle Rescue Hospital and Dolphin Research Center on Marathon and a day trip to Key West. The Keys are beautiful, we felt like we were in the Caribbean. We ate lots of fresh seafood, yum!

Bill I envy you. And, it's great to have you back on this blog of yours. Really no spring break because I'm in a brace trying to recover from a compression fracture in my back.

We have a spot on the North End close to Cherry Grove pier. It is still so quiet and relaxing, and yet just a short ride to all the "stuff." Some people cringe when they hear Myrtle Beach, I tell them, go to the North side!
