Holly Springs

Posted Updated

I’ll be heading down the road for a concert tomorrow evening. It’ll be a special Bill Leslie & Lorica Christmas concert at the Holly Springs Cultural Center at 7:30PM. Our band will be playing a blend of holiday and other tunes from my eight CDs including my newest A Midnight Clear – Christmas in Mitford. Even Dulcimer Dan Gilvary will join us for a couple of tunes along with the regular five members of our band. Please join us for special evening in Holly Springs at the lovely and intimate Cultural Center.

I always feel right at home in Holly Springs. Maybe it’s the Leslie connection. Archibald Leslie helped settle the town. He was a tailor and store owner who moved to the area from Scotland. The freshwater springs in the town were on Archibald’s original 180 acre estate. The main house remains today and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  You may have been to Archibald's Tavern in the area.  That was named after the town's founder.

What about the name of the town? Well, it is what it is. The town was named for 40 foot holly trees towering over freshwater springs. Today Holly Springs is a thriving town with a progressive spirit. Maybe I’ll run into my former anchor buddy Laurie Clowers while in Holly Springs. I recall the 22 inch snow storm nearly a dozen years ago and driving Laurie home from WRAL a couple of days. Laurie now works as public relations chief at Wake Tech.

Have a great weekend! Maybe I will see you in Holly Springs.
