Parade romance

What is your favorite parade story? Please share. This story from Melody Adams may be hard to top. Parades can be fun, festive, nostalgic and in this case - romantic!

In 1958, the Raleigh Christmas Parade was held on Saturday, Nov 22. My mom had just graduated from nursing school at Rex Hospital & was doing some modeling. She was asked to be on the Army Recruiting float. At that time my dad was stationed at the Army Recruiting office in Raleigh. They met for the first time on that float. That night they were being driven by a friend to South Carolina to get married. They decided to stop at the drive-in theater in Fuquay to call & find out if there was a waiting period. There was, in fact, a 3 day waiting period so they went back to Raleigh. The following Saturday, they went to Dillon, SC & got married. They were still married when they passed away (Daddy in June, 2000; & Mom in Sept, 2001). They had three children & there are 7 grandchildren & 1 great-grand-daughter. The Raleigh Christmas Parade has always been special to me because of this story. My parents took us to see the parade almost every year growing up.

If any of you fall in love this weekend and decide to run away and get married please let me know about it!

My favorite parade story is not romantic at all. When my brother and I were children, our parents gave in to our begging and took us to Charlotte to the Carolinas Carousel Christmas parade. My dad wore his favorite hat and, while he was standing on the street corner in Charlotte, a pigeon made a very large deposit on Daddy's hat. That was the last parade we were ever taken to and we knew there was no need to ask further. I always think of my wonderful daddy when I see a parade.

Wow What a sweet story Bill.. I guess that was love at first sight for sure..

That story is so sweet! May your parents rest in peace.
