State Fair food question

I’ll meet you at the State Fair today! Kelcey Carlson and I will be out there between 2:00 and 5:00 PM in the WRAL booth. You can pick up a copy of my new CD while I’m at the fair. A Midnight Clear – Christmas in Mitford was released on Monday. I will be signing copies at the WRAL booth today and Sunday.

If Kelcey and I seem a little “out of it” today please forgive us. We are both fasting this morning in advance of the WRAL Health Fair. Once we get our blood work done this morning we’ll have the green light to eat again. I think we should reward ourselves with a bit of fair food today. Here’s the question: what food would you recommend that we eat today at the North Carolina State Fair? I will send the person with the best answer a copy of my new CD. Thanks.

My perfect fair chow:

Breakfast - Cary United Methodist Church country ham biscut, large java. Snack 1 - fried dough with toppings, the vendor near the NCSHP display. Lunch - Choplin's hot dogs. Eat'em by the yard as my Grandaddy said. Dessert - N.C. State Dairy Crew and a famous milkshake or heaping cone. None better. Snack - Al's fries, period. Get 1 or 2 orders. If you don't you will wish you had.

Supper - N.C Cattleman's rib eye along with an ear of rosted corn. Pick up the corn first so you can chew while wating on the sandwich prep.

Dessert - Honey cotton candy. The best!

Night cap - Large Brantley's decaf coffee for the fire works show.

My two cents worth.

Al's fries are the best!

Grilled corn on the cob

All the food at the First United Methodist booth is very good. Prices aren't too bad either. They especially have good ham biscuits and hot dogs (also footlongs).

YES...the Fudge! It's inside the building that you find the NCSU ice cream.I think the State Fair Fudge, not the Amish fudge is the best. It's the type my grandmother made. It's just butter, chocolate and sugar. I'm not going this year, but my mouth waters just thinking about it!!! yum

First stop is always Barefoot family hot dogs, get a footlong with mustard, chili and onions, french fries and pour vinegar over them with a large Coke and my state fair trip is completew...fine folks and great food

Not sure if these are easy to get at the fair, but I suggest a good old mountain apple. It won't kill you, and it might even improve your health! Just sayin'....

I went to the fair on Saturday - 5 weeks out from Lap-Band !!!!! Had 2 samples of peanut better and 1 pinch of maple cotton candy !!! and water. But sure did enjoy the aroma in the air. Boy, what a test but I passed.

If you want to help the students at NC State, they "man" the NC Cattlemen's booth with the best steak sandwiches (animal science majors), of course the NC State ice cream, and my daugther (a NCSU senior, poultry science major & AZ member) also works in the Pork Chop Shop. Pork, veggies, roll and drink for, I think, around $6 or $7, can't beat the price.

My favorite is the Cary United Methodist they have the best homemade ham biscuits made with buttermilk! I can taste it now.

I'm gonna get an italian sausage w/peppers and onions Thursday if I can afford it!
