The 5 Fighters are on a mission to help end breast cancer. It was my great privilege and honor to introduce us to the public today.
Brenna, Aolani, Sean, Janice and I have all been affected in one way or another by breast cancer. Too many people have been taken away from our lives, or have come too close to death due to this disease. There was no better time than now for us to get loud about the need to fight back.
Perhaps you're wondering how this particular group of people got together to form the 5 Fighters. Well let me briefly explain. I have known two of them for years. Brenna and Janice. We're buds. I already knew their passion around the issue of breast cancer.
It was a chance meeting that brought Aolani's path together with mine. She introduced herself to me at a Christmas party. We talked of many things, including her mother's diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. I could feel the tremendous love she has in her heart for her mom and I could feel the pain of the struggles they endured navigating this crisis. Aolani is a special young woman.. beautiful inside and out.
I knew she'd be a great motivator.. getting us all mentally and physically psyched for the race.
But this crew needed one more player. I thought, "how about a man?". They are among the survivors of this disease and they also work to be there for the women they love. Aolani found out I that I was looking for a guy and suggested her brother. Perfect. Sean stepped right on in, and we were off.
Now here's the challenge and you are welcome to give me feedback as we prepare to train and help raise money for breast cancer research and other programs and services.
I have not been able to get all 5 of us together in the same place at the same time! Not yet. Arrrgghh!!!
We are busy busy busy people: moms with young kids, new dads, instructors, singers, sports lovers, anchors. I think you get my meaning.
Tell me, what would you do to make it so?
