Dog recovering after rescue from U.S. Highway 70

Posted July 20, 2010

— A dog found July 13 on U.S. Highway 70 near Durham will soon be up for adoption.

Esther, a terrier mix, was taken in by Dixie Trail Animal Clinic after she was rescued from the roadway near Miami Boulevard.

Esther was in bad shape and needed food, a bath and medical attention. The staff at Dixie Trail examined her and gave her a rabies shot. She also received treatment for heartworms.

Esther was a new mother but an attempt to find her puppies in the area where she was found was unsuccessful.

Now that she is on the road to recovery, Esther has been accepted into the Independent Animal Rescue foster program.

She will soon appear on their website as being available for adoption.

There are more and more pets being abandoned by their owners in such an inhumane way ... just being dumped on the side of the road. I'm happy for Esther, but sad for her puppies which could not be found.
