Legislators to Consider Laws for Exotic Pets

The Joint Select Committee on Inherently Dangerous Animals is considering whether North Carolina needs laws regulating the ownership of animals such as tigers, bears and certain reptiles.
According to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, more than 10,000 tigers are held as pets in the U.S. North Carolina is one of only nine states that do not regulate exotic-animal ownership.
The hearing will take place Thursday at 1 p.m. in Room 643 of the Legislative Office Building in Raleigh.
