Promethazine isn't even approved for use with pets but he said it is common practice among vets. Can you believe the vet offered to bury Pogi on his farm. Pogi was very loved and will be dearly missed.

What I found was that this drug isn't recommend in children under 2 and even older than that bc it causes to the respiratory system to slow or stop and can lead to death. My mom was there in his last moments and she recalls him gasping for breath. My sister was rx this bc she was pregnant and I believe she was taking the same dosage he was prescribed. She was a pregnant adult and he was 10 lbs. She said that when she took it she was knocked out for hours. I could only imagine what it did to him. From this our family has learned not to naively give medicine prescribed by vets to our pets without checking them out first. It just saddens me to think Pogi's life was ended shortly but I guess I can't say for sure that it was the Promethazine. We went to the vet the next day then he tried to claim that Pogi was worse off than we thought. Okay why didn't he say that when we initially brought pogi in?

Pogi was seven years old when he passed away. Every year was a joy. Pogi was my dog growing up but when I moved out I only saw him when I went home. I went home the week before Pogi passed away and I took some pictures of him and I am glad I did. When I saw Pogi that day he was so happy and running around so I just couldn't understand how he could pass away a week later. He had been coughing and refusing to eat his beef jerker so he was taken to a local vet. The vet said he had kennel cough and his throat was sore which accounted for him not eating his fave treat. Well, he was prescribed Promethazine. He started taking it on Monday and by Thurday evening Pogi passed away. Kennel cough?! My dad was so upset trying to figure out what happened. He said it seemed like he was getting better. I asked what medication he was on and he told me Promethazine so I checked it out online.
