My Dog's Inappropriate Appetite Is Grossing Me Out

Dear Miss Fifi:

My older dog is drinking & eating my younger's dog urine & poop. What do I do?

- Brenda S.

~~~
Dear Brenda:
The practice of coprophagy (the vet's term for eating poop) is both behavorial and psychological, though Miss Fifi subscribes to neither because I just consider it to be beneath me.
But, perhaps your pup's feces still contains a great deal of undigested matter, which calls to your older dog like a lodestone. Perhaps your older dog is simply showing its dominance over the pup. Or, perhaps your older dog is trying to help out the pup by making sure the poop is not showing up in the wrong place (like on the carpet or in the kennel). Either way, talk to your vet to find out what can be done about it.
As I said above, this was never an issue with Miss Fifi. Good luck.
