My adopted dog can't be trained, help!

Question:
I am at my wits end with my poodle. I got the dog 6 months ago. He was being abused so I decided to buy this one and bring it home. He still isn't house broke, he licks all the time, he chews everything he can get his mouth on, you cant love on him because he will chew on your hand, and every night when we go to bed, the dog sleeps with me, but he gets into these barking rages that last forever some times. What can I do to help this dog figure out that I love him and want to make him happy but this has to stop. I've bought treats and when he is good, I give him one. I praise him when he is good. I take him outside and play with him. He is very rarely alone. I need help!

A:  I would recommend training classes.  The Well-Mannered Pet Class would be perfect for your situation.

It sounds like your dog is starting to show some signs of dominance and is not controllable in the house.  I would recommend training classes and working with a behavior trainer to get you both on the right path to a long, happy relationship.  I would recommend speaking to either Hannah or Mary at 783-7387 or 832-3107 and signing up for the Well-Mannered Pet Class.  This class will help your dog focus on you, rather than everything else.  It is for dogs over the age of 6 months and is a fantastic class.  (I recently completed the class with my 5 year old poodle).

Dayschool would also help with some of the chewing, biting, and housebreaking behaviors.  Both Hannah and Mary can speak with you about this option as well.

i used to think some dogs were untrainable, until i went to the dog whisperer website and found a local dog trainer listed on that site who used the Cesear techniques. i was shocked!!! it was immediately noticable. i am not at all affiliated with her business, but glady recommend elaine at carolinadogtraining.com cause she is a miracle worker if you ask me.
