SANFORD, N.C. — A Philadelphia-area developer plans to bring solar power to Lee County. Sanford Solar LLC filed plans Tuesday with the North Carolina Utilities Commission to build an almost 2-megawatt solar array at the corner of Washington Avenue and Garden Street in Sanford.

The solar farm, which would consist of tilted panels on ground-mounted racks, would open in autumn and generate about 3 million kilowatt hours of electricity for sale to Progress Energy.
