If you are interested in the way that the economy is shaping real estate, and the way that real estate shapes the economy, and if you like stories about real people, go see it. It's brilliantly done. The director filmed a business tycoon and his family as they built the largest home in America, modeled after Versailles, and lost it after the stock market crash of 2008.
The house was one to gawk at. It included 5 million dollars worth of marble and 10 kitchens, which sadly their local Orlando plumbers never got to plumb because the house went up for auction before they could finish it. The mogul's wife amassed an entire warehouse of Louis the XIV furniture, which at the time of the filming looked like it would never make it into the house.
Does it sound boring to you...a documentary about a house? It's about so much more than a house. It's about how one unusual family is struggling with economic reality. It's a boom-and-bust story that should not be missed. It's screening now in select cities.
