The capital city

Given its location in the center of the state, Raleigh can simply be called the heart of North Carolina. This city’s echoing beat originates in its pedestrian Capitol Square. Not only is this cluster of blocks the seat of the state’s governmental offices, it is the busy home of the North Carolina Museum of History, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, and the City Market boasting fabulous restaurants, superb shopping and the thought-provoking art of local artisans.

No matter how different each newcomer’s palette, Raleigh offers more than enough colorful options of excitement. Hosting hundreds of events a year, the local colleges alone prove this. Meredith College, North Carolina State University, Peace College, Shaw University, St. Augustine’s College, and Wake Technical Community College entice us with attractions ranging from sporting events to performing arts and music concerts.

Sociable newcomers can enjoy the buzzing scene of Hillsborough Street, located directly across from the campus of N.C. State University. And when out-and-about, all ages can pay a visit to the hometown hockey team, the Carolina Hurricanes, at the RBC Center just down the street.

Those who prefer a quieter, less progressive side of the city can journey just blocks away from Capitol Square into the surrounding historic neighborhoods. The ambiance of these oak-lined streets reminds visitors of Raleigh’s age, 214 years, and authenticates its title as the “City of Oaks”. The town’s unique style and colonial face seem unharmed, making the transition from old world to new almost unperceivable. With this seamless atmosphere, movers from either large or small communities settle easy. And what better a place to settle one’s home than where the heart is, the heart of North Carolina, Raleigh.
