Where Can We Find the Best Christmas Trees?

With a North Carolina Fraser Fir in the White House, I figure there’s bound to be the perfect Christmas Tree for everyone just around the corner.

This year’s official tree comes from River Ridge Tree Farm in the scenic North Carolina High Country area, and chances are one or two of the neighboring trees are for sale down here in the Piedmont.

One of the most abundant types of trees is the Fraser, but I found a great listing of the Top 10 Choices for Christmas Trees online, which may give you a broader array of options.

1. Fraser Fir
2. Noble Fir
3. Colorado Blue Spruce
4. Grand Fir
5. Balsam Fir
6. Concolor Fir
7. Eastern White Pine
8. Douglas Fir
9. Scotch Pine
10. Norway Spruce

Though we haven't ever had a Concolor Fir (or White Fir), I think it's one of the prettiest of the Top 10.

I had a white fir tree once and it was very pretty. Unfortunately (or fortunately) as I've grown older I really hate cutting down a perfectly healthy tree only to throw it away in a couple of weeks. I'm also worried about fire safety so I now have an artificial tree. I'd like to get a new one this year because the branches on current one are getting pretty mashed, but they're so expensive!

Carver Farm Nursery in Roxboro, North Carolina (approx 1 mile outside of city limits on 501 North) has Frasier Firs that are sized between 6 to 8 foot. These trees North Carolina Mountain grown. For more information contact 336-599-6830.

I know fresh trees are beautiful and smell wonderful but I love the convenience of an artificial tree. It can be put up and taken down at anytime without worrying about watering, needles,etc. and putting it on the street for pick-up. The tree I have now even comes with the lights already on it. How great it that??
