It's freezing outside, but it's nice and warm indoors. First on our January To Do List is to start annual seeds in our sunny windows or, like me, on the kitchen table.
Depending on what kind of deadlines I'm on, I try to start two or three different varieties of annuals by seed before February 1. My favorite seeds—aside from herbs and mainly because they're pretty easy to care for—are petunias, verbena and snap dragons. I found a great article online from Southern Living that has great details on starting seeds in your windowsill.
Over the years, I have used different containers for my growing seeds. Ice trays, egg cartons, little newspaper pots I made with a special tool, store-bought peat pots, terra cotta planters ... you name it, I've started seeds in it. But I've never tried egg shells as the vessel for soil and seed, as suggested by Southern Living.
Guess what I'm trying this year?
- Do you start seeds indoors?
- What plant will your seeds grow?
- Do you have any interesting methods or growing tips to share?
