Got a postcard from my favorite strawberry farm in Apex, Buckwheat Farm, letting us know the farm was open for strawberry picking. Woo-Hoo! If you're like my son and I, you'll wind up with a bit of a rash once all the strawberries are gone.
Frosty and freezing temperatures late in the season had threatened the strawberry crop, among others, so I was both relieved and thankful to know that for at least one family-owned farm in the Triangle, strawberry season is afoot.
Buckwheat Farm is located at 2700 Holland Road in Apex, and is owned by Karma Lee. It specializes in Pick-Your-Own strawberry production, but like other savvy farming businesses in the area, Buckwheat Farm has broadened its reach to include jams and jellies and animals for visiting. Horses, goats, guinea fowl, chickens and pea fowl are lively and fun, and a huge draw for children.
If picking your own is not your thing, pre-picked strawberries are available. But if you are picking your own, Buckwheat Farm asks that you bring your own container.
