Rex Healthcare said it is in critical need for blood donations.

Due to winter weather conditions and the holiday season, many Rex blood drives have not been well-attended or have had to be canceled, officials said.

Blood inventory is at less than a two-day supply, officials said Thursday. To meet the blood supply needs of patients, Rex will need 200 to 250 pints of blood by Jan. 7.

Giving blood takes about an hour.

Rex Healthcare Blood Services is encouraging community members to donate as soon as possible by visiting its Blood Donor Center, 2709 Blue Ridge Road, Suite 150 in Raleigh. Appointments can be made by calling 919-784-4750.

Rex also offers mobile blood drives at various locations.

"I would love to donate, but do you know if there would be a problem since I take Paxil and Synthroid? I don't know if I would be rejected from donating." quinnwizard

Rex Blood Services bloodmobile comes to my employer roughly every 10-12 weeks - enough time for a donor to donate again. Every time you donate, you read through a full list of medications that may prevent you from donating. I'm sure if you call them ahead of time, they will be more than happy to let you know if any of your meds will disqualify you. Their staff is wonderful!
