— State officials denied Rex Healthcare's plan to build urgent care facilities in Holly Springs and in the Panther Creek area of west Cary Wednesday.

Rex also wanted to put a cancer facility in west Cary, but that was denied as well.

The hospital says it plans to appeal the decision.

"RTPMedic - WakeMed actually had both of their Healthplex (free-standing emergency department) applications denied during this same month although I haven't seen any press around that."

One of two reasons for the denial.
1- WakeMed is trying to spread too far too fast and someone is finally wise to it.
2- These 'denials' help avoid some of the heat they should be taking for having their new satellite hospitals approved while everyone else's requests are being denied ... at least for now.

(Pure speculation) Atkinson is trying to build his empire so he can run for governor ... probably. I think he wants to move on Franklin County too for maybe more than a hospital.

This is probably the least informative news article ever written. The entire article is written in a total of three sentences. I think what they have provided for is actually considered "a lead", and not an article. Do some investigating and give us more information.

maybe some answers are due since no one seems to have any.
I know maybe a news organization can find out for us!

Why would you deny something like this? stupid

  • godukebasketball May 8, 2008

Hospitals and other health care providers have to submit applications to build large facilities because they have to show there is need in the market. Probably Rex's applications didn't adequately show need for the services in those areas.

RTPMedic - WakeMed actually had both of their Healthplex (free-standing emergency department) applications denied during this same month although I haven't seen any press around that.

Gee, they complain and campaign about health care, then someone wants to make it more available and they say no. So is that 2 denials for Rex recently??

  • TheAdmiral May 8, 2008

I think it runs deeper yet. I think it has to do with price gouging.

  • solly93 May 8, 2008

What was the reasoning behind the denials?

  • klcmomof2 May 8, 2008

What does the state have to do with it? If Rex wants to pay and build, why can't they? What is the reason for the denial?

  • RTPMedic May 7, 2008

Is it me, or does anyone else feel that MAYBE Bill Atkinson is behind all of these denials Rex has had lately?

WakeMed doesn't seem to have trouble with the State denying them 'new stuff' (i.e. a helicopter with two already less than 30 miles away).
