RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina Children's Hospital is one of 53 hospitals launching a new non-profit foundation called Together for Kids. The foundation members announced the alliance Wednesday in Washington, D.C. at the National Press Club.

Dr. Alan Stiles, physician and chief of the North Carolina Children's Hospital, said the idea behind the initiative is to raise awareness to problems like obesity.

"So if there's something good that can be done, it won't take months or years to read about it in our journal. It will be there actively because we talked to each other," said Dr. Stiles.

Stiles believes the foundation will give hospitals a bigger voice to influence state Legislatures and Congressional funding of child health care programs. They will also have more research fundraising opportunities.
