hi i have a few spotches on the left side of my face that came about 1yr ago, when i get hot or upset it breaks out and looks real red. It looks like shingles but it is not,i have always had clear skin but since then it has been that one area.One doctor said something about hormonal changes but i just dont understand that,could you please advise me of something to help clear it up?It does not itch but when i get hot it seems to irtate some,thank you if you could answer my question.

Answer: It sounds like you might have something called cholinergic urticaria. This is a puzzling process wherein the skin is over-reactive to emotional or physical stresses, such as hot/cold variation. Usually, this condition responds very well to second-generation antihistamines, such as Zyrtec.

Alternately, you might have a nevus flammeus (stork bite), which is a small tangle of capillaries underneath the skin that many people have as a birth mark. This could be treated with laser therapy to remove the color.
