Looking to shed a few pounds, put on some muscle or just stay fit? Or maybe you're looking for guidance in nutrition and maintaining a healthier lifestyle? Regardless of your health and fitness goals, we can help.

Stepping Up Your Workout

I (Joni) am continually amazed by my clients and the transformations of their bodies, minds, and spirits. Our focus in the beginning is to understand that once they start training that it takes not only drive and determination but also a commitment of time.

Developing clearly defined goals and ways to achieve them are key to success when it comes to health and fitness. Creating a partnership with a personal trainer is one of the best ways to ensure that you reach and exceed your aspirations.

We provide the motivation and expertise. Our clients just show up for a new experience of what their bodies can do and how far they can be pushed (depending on their fitness goals). The mind-body experience is touched at a new level with training.

Will you be able to meet your goals by yourself? If you are new to exercising or to a gym, you're guaranteed a better, more effective workout than going at it alone.

If you're deciding whether to take the plunge, remember that investing in a personal trainer is an investment in yourself and your future. The investment is worth every penny, especially if you think about potential health  care costs later on in life because of your physical limitations and inabilities now.

When choosing a personal trainer, choose one you can connect with in many different ways: someone you get along with and enjoy being around. Aside from certification and experience, look for a trainer who makes you feel  comfortable and excited about fitness. This is the true secret to success.

A few other key things to consider: You want someone who is genuinely  concerned about you and your goals; someone who will do everything in his or her  power to help you surpass them.

The best trainers are always learning about and implementing new techniques to avoid the training plateau that affects many patrons. A trainer's positive attitude and constant encouragement will help ensure your success.

The REAL question is not if you should find a trainer. It's who should it be.

Chad Edwards is a personal trainer at O2 Fitness in Raleigh. He holds a B.S. in Exercise & Sports Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Joni Porter is a certified personal trainer and cycling-certified and Body Pump instructor at O2 Fitness in Raleigh. She is certified through the Interactive Fitness Trainers of America.
