You can’t open a magazine without seeing skinny celebrities and their seemingly perfect skin and hair. I know some of it is Photoshop, but some of these women really are super small.

I know being overweight or underweight isn’t advised for women who want to have children. I’ve read a BMI of between 20 and 25 is ideal.

But is there such a thing as being too skinny or fat to get pregnant? People of all sizes have children – healthy children!

There has been a lot of buzz about E! News host Giuliana Rancic’s weight. She is super thin and has been struggling with fertility issues for the past two years. Her struggles have been chronicled on the reality show “Giuliana and Bill” on the Style Network.

She has said doctors told her to gain five to 10 pounds. Because of the image conscious industry she works in, Giuliana struggled with her doctor’s advice and gained just five pounds.

Giuliana has maintained that her fertility issues aren’t related to her weight, even pointing out fit and slim celeb moms Kelly Ripa, Victoria Beckham and Rachel Zoe.

She has tried IVF but hasn’t had any luck so far.

I don’t think all her problems are related to her weight, but I wish Hollywood was a little more forgiving of people who look normal!

First, I want to ask you what you think of being too thin and trying to get pregnant. Were any of you underweight before pregnancy?

Pregnant or not, Giuliana is super thin and I wanted to find out how she maintains her weight. So, I did some digging. A post about her diet has since been removed from her website, but a few people did copy it. Here are the highlights:

  • 4:35 a.m. wake up and hit the gym by 5 a.m. Morning meeting at 6:30 a.m. and a bottle of water with lemon and a pinch of cayenne pepper. She sips hot green or oolong tea (slimming blends a special tea garden made for her) during the day.
  • 7:15 a.m. Organic grapefruit and an egg white omelet with veggies and herbs. She is very specific about the use of butter or oil: “And i ALWAYS say NO BUTTER, NO OIL…instead tell them to cook it in a light mist of Pam cooking spray. Tell them your allergic to butter so that they don’t slip it in there like a lot of places do. If they don’t have Pam spray, then tell them to use just a DROP or two of Oil!!! If you don’t like omelets, you can also do the same ingredients in a scramble or a frittata…once again, Pam spray or a drop of oil…NO BUTTER!!!”
  • During the day she snacks on Kashi bars and for lunch she orders a rotisserie chicken breast and steamed broccoli from a local restaurant. She eats around or throws away the skin.
  • Some fruit or a Kashi bar mid-day and then she is ready for dinner. She loves sushi and avoids brown sauces and tempura. Or she has grilled chicken or fish and steamed veggies, once again steering away from the oil. “I try not to eat bread or pasta or anything made with white sugar and white flour but I end up having it about once or twice a week.”
  • For dessert, she has berries.
For the full diet, check out the link. I am not sure if she is still doing this, but it was posted online last year.

What do you think of this diet? Is it realistic for an average person or a mom?
