When it's hot outside, like it is now, I like to pair our playground visits with a trip to an indoor spot. That way we can get to the park early and play a little bit and then head indoors once it starts to really get hot.

Kiwanis Park in Wake Forest isn't a huge park at just about an acre. There isn't any shade here either. But it sits right next door to the Wake Forest Branch Library, a great place to escape the heat for a regularly scheduled storytime or just to check out some books.

The park also got an upgrade about 18 months ago when the town unveiled new equipment for kids with disabilities. They include therapeutic swings and sand box and a "sight and sound" play panel.

Take a closer look at the park in the video.
