National Night Out, the event that aims to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and generate support for anti-crime efforts, will be celebrated in communities and neighborhoods across the Triangle on Tuesday.

While every celebration is different, these events are definitely family friendly and often offer plenty to keep kids busy, including fire and police displays, mascots and more. Target is the National Night Out national sponsor, so many of the events will be held at Target stores.

Here's where you'll find them:

  • The Wake Forest Police Department will host a National Night Out Parking Lot Party from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Wake Forest Target Superstore, 12000 Retail Dr. There will be food; special prizes; and fire, police and EMS vehicle displays. Two church choirs will perform and an Army National Guard helicopter will fly in for a landing. Click here for details.
  • Cary will mark the night with a special event from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. outside Cary Towne Center's food court. Parents can sign up for a home safety inspection or obtain children identification kits. Emergency vehicles and fire trucks will be on display. And members from Cary’s Emergency Response Team, K9 Unit, and Project PHOENIX will be on hand to answer questions. The town also will open its police substation in western Cary at 10120 Green Level Rd., Suite 208. The public is invited to drop by during National Night Out to meet the policing team. • Raleigh will mark the night with 23 celebrations across the city, including the Targets at North Hills and Brier Creek. Click here for details.
  • Durham also has plans for events across the city.
