Duke Gardens has canceled its free summer movie series after reviewing the high cost and the small number of people who attended during the past two years.

This season's series was to have featured four animated movies started in the middle of August. They included "A Bug's Life" and "Happy Feet." Duke Gardens may offer another movie series at some point, possibly in a different format.

One movie, however, still is scheduled. The free screening of the documentary "Play Again," is on. The program is Sept. 15 and in partnership with Duke's Nicholas School of the Environment. "Play Again" is an award-winning documentary that considers the consequences of a childhood removed from nature. The movie will start around dusk.
