With weather like this, even heating up frozen veggies in the microwave sounds unappetizing. We're eating a lot of sandwiches, raw vegetables and fruit at my house these days.

We make our own dips for food in my house. We have a handle on savory ones for veggies, mixing sour cream or plain yogurt with some herbs and garlic, for instance.

We dip fruit in yogurt sometimes, but I like this alternative too.

I actually first tried this recipe last year in my daughter's kindergarten class. I was volunteering during the class' Apple Feast and I was manning the fruit dip station. I mixed the ingredients together and the kids decided if they liked the dip better with green, red or yellow apples (or all of the above).

This dip also goes well with other fruits too, such as grapes and strawberries. It's so easy, even young kids can help. Here's how to make it.

Cream cheese fruit dip
1 8-ounce package softened cream cheese
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Fresh fruit

Mix the cream cheese, brown sugar and vanilla. Serve with fruit for dipping.
