I’m always trying to shake up my diet – try new things and find ways to make the old standards a little healthier.

I’ve been hearing for awhile that avocado is a good stand in for mayonnaise, but I never fully believed it … until I tried it!

While on vacation in Miami, I had a turkey club sandwich with avocado spread instead of mayo. It is amazing the way the avocado blended so well with the rest of the ingredients. I ate a lot of other stuff in Miami, but I tried to keep most of it on the healthy side. I am less than five pounds from my super goal after all.

Since then, I’ve tried Subway’s avocado spread. It’s good, but they tend to always put way too much on my sandwich even though I ask for just a little.

In lieu of avocado spread, you can always slice some avocado and place that on the sandwich. Haven’t tried that one yet.

Avocados are high in fat, but nutritionists say it is a good kind of fat so enjoy!

Another swap I made was plain Greek yogurt in place of reduced fat sour cream. The tartness of the yogurt is a perfect fit and Greek yogurt has more nutritional benefits than sour cream. Definitely something to try on tacos or anything else.

My husband has recently jumped on board the nutrition train. He is easing into it by swapping out his chocolate fudge strip cookie cravings for vanilla yogurt with an Oreo crushed up inside. Everyone has to start somewhere.

What tricks are you trying to cut down on fat and calories?
