Acting has been a lifelong passion for Terri Dollar.

She was a child actor and grew up to become a drama teacher at Arts Together and Broughton High School in Raleigh, where her most famous student was actress Sharon Lawrence. She also was the star of so many industrial films, the kind companies might make to train their employees, that somebody once called her the Meryl Streep of the genre.

It was on the set of one of those films years ago when her two young daughters, now grown, got caught up in it all. Dollar had always wanted to keep acting as something she did on her own, for herself. But her girls jumped at the chance to play her daughters in one of the films.

That's when Dollar, as she tells me, became a stage mom. Her daughters both went on to pursue acting, though at different levels.

And when her own talent agent retired, Dollar took over the business, but decided to focus only on children. Kids Unlimited Talent Agency, North Carolina's largest talent agency for kids. started with just 10 kids in 1995. Today, Dollar represents more than 300 kids, ages 4 and up, in the Carolinas.

I've known Dollar for years now because of her other job organizing the Artsplosure and First Night events in downtown Raleigh. For the next five weeks, on Wednesdays, Dollar will be offering some tips for parents and kids who think they might be interested in pursuing a career in the entertainment business. She'll talk about what casting directors are looking for, how to avoid all the scams that are out there and how much kids in the business actually make.

Thank you Terri!
